Set up your organization

A step-by-step checklist, in the order each part depends on the last.

Most parts of Ranes use people, groups and jobs, so set those up first. Each step below links to the article that explains it.

  1. Decide your terms If your organization says Project, Site or Case rather than Job, rename it (Rename Jobs). Create a few labels for sorting.
  2. Invite people Send invitations and choose each person's role. See Invite people.
  3. Create groups Set up teams, shifts, departments or trades. See Create and organize groups.
  4. Set up time tracking Add time categories and cost codes. See Time categories and cost codes.
  5. Create jobs Add your sites, projects or contracts, then their crews and cost codes. See Create a job and Add people, groups and cost codes to a job.
  6. Upload documents Create folders with the right access and add your procedures and manuals. See Create folders and control access.
  7. Set up training Add instructors and credit topics, build courses and enroll people. See Set up instructors and credit topics.
  8. Build forms Create and publish the forms people fill out. Mark the ones planners will use as Planner forms. See Create a new form.
  9. Build planners Turn repeatable work into tasks, attaching forms, documents and time categories. See Create a new planner.
  10. Add Tap In checks Choose forms people must complete before they start work. See Require checks before people tap in.
  11. Check notifications Decide who hears about what, and how. See Choose who gets notified.
  12. Assign the work Assign forms and planners, then watch progress on the Work board. See Assign a planner and Track work on the Work board.

Tip

You don't need everything on day one. A good first week is: invite people, create one or two groups and one job, then assign a single form. Add the rest as people get comfortable.
