How planners work

Reusable, step-by-step plans that people complete, record and sign off.

A planner is a reusable plan for a piece of work. It lists the tasks to do, in order, and the things each task needs: forms to fill out, photos to take, checks to verify, reference files to read and time to record. You build the planner once, then assign it to people as often as the work comes up.

Planners in different industries

  • Facilities: a quarterly HVAC service with a task per unit and a photo of each filter.
  • Hospitality: an opening checklist where each area has its own task and sign-off.
  • Manufacturing: a changeover procedure with a form to complete before the line restarts.
  • Construction: a daily start-of-shift plan covering risks, controls and a crew sign-in.

The life of a planner

  1. Build An administrator creates the planner in the Ranes Portal: its type, tasks and what each task requires.
  2. Assign The planner is assigned to people, groups or jobs, either open-ended or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule.
  3. Complete Team members open it in the Ranes app, work through the tasks, record outcomes and evidence, and submit.
  4. Review Administrators track progress, review submissions and evidence, follow up on open items, and download reports.

Planners and forms

A form captures one set of answers. A planner organizes a whole piece of work and can require forms along the way. If the work is a single questionnaire, use a form. If it has several steps, prerequisites or evidence, use a planner.
