Time categories and cost codes
Define what people track time against: the kind of activity, and the code it's billed to.

Add time categories
- Open Time Categories Go to Company › Settings › Time Categories.
- Add one Select Add Category. Enter a name, a description and a color.
- Add more Use Save and Add Another to add several in a row.
Add cost codes
- Open Cost Codes Go to Company › Settings › Cost Codes and select Add Code.
- Enter the code Add the code and a description.
- Add it to jobs Add the code to each job that uses it. See Add people, groups and cost codes to a job.
Where they're used
- When people tap in, they choose a job, a time category and a cost code.
- Planner tasks can carry a time category, so people tap in from the task.
- Time entries and hours summaries break down by both.
- The workspace can be filtered by either.
Tip
Keep time categories few and broad. Use cost codes for the detail your billing or payroll needs.
